Aircraft

Use the aircraft function to register all aircraft that flies at the club. The system requires that aircraft entered in the flight log is previously registered in this table.

although the system provides facilities for the user to enter aircraft from the flight log data entry screen, we recommend that, whenever possible, this process is done using the aircraft screen, as here you can enter detailed information about the aircraft.

Fields available at the Aircraft screen:  

Registration
Enter the full registration of the aircraft.

Short registration
Enter the short registration of the aircraft. This is the code that will be entered in the flight log data entry screen.

Competition registration
Enter the registration for competition, if applicable.

Type
Select the aircraft type from the dropdown list.

Model
Select the aircraft model from the dropdown list.

Status
For newly included aircraft, always select “Active”. The “Inactive” status should be used only for aircraft no longer in service to avoid having them listed in the flight log aircraft selection lists.

Tacho unit
Select, from the drop down list, the unit used for tacho readings for the aircraft being edited, if applicable.

Hobbs unit
Select, from the drop down list, the unit used for hobbs readings for the aircraft being edited, is applicable.

Flight time charge mode
Select, from the drop down list, how flying charges should be calculated for the aircraft being edited. The system can use flight time (difference between taka-off and landing times), tacho readings, hobbs readings or combinantions of these.

Owner
For private owned aircraft, click on the magnifying glass button to select the owner from the list that will be presented.

For club aircraft, click on the magnifying glass button to select the record that contains the name of the club. By standard this is the record with account ‘0000’.

Any aircraft which does not have the club as the owner, is considered private aircraft (see exceptions in the indicators below). As consequence, the system will not calculate flight time fees (soaring fees for gliders and flight time or tacho time for powered aircraft).

Ledger account
If the revenue generated by an aircraft is to be assigned to a specific ledger account, then define it here. Click on the magnifying glass. You will be presented with a list from which you should select the relevant ledger account.

Indicator – Third party owner but used by the club
If the aircraft belongs to a third party but has been rented to the club, select this box. For the purpose of calculation of flight costs, this aircraft should be considered by the system in the same way as a club aircraft.

Indicator – Club owned but used by third party
If the aircraft belongs to the club but has been ceded to a third party, select this box. For the purpose of calculation of flight costs, this aircraft should be considered by the system in the same way as a private aircraft.

Indicator – Aircraft is used as tug
If the aircraft is used as a tug, select this box. This indicators has two purposes:
a) Identify the aircraft that should be listed in the flight log data entry screen.
b) Identify the aircraft that should be listed in the “Launches per tug” report. 

Indicator – Visitor aircraft 
It is not always desirable or necessary to inform all aircraft information. This is the case for visitors aircraft which may been at the airfield a few times while in transit. Nevertheless, the aircraft must be entered in the flight log for legal purposes.

In such cases, the flight log data entry screen allows you to register the visiting aircraft on the go and will accept it even if you type just the aircraft registration. 

Indicator – Apply aircraft ledger account to all activity charges
If you define a ledger account to a specific aircraft, the system normally links only charges associated to flight time ( soaring, tacho or power flight time) to this ledger account. The activity chargeable items made using club’s equipment or resources such as winch launch, aerotow, landing fees, etc. are linked to their respective ledger accounts.  

However, if this option is selected, all activity chargeable items associated to the flight carried out with this aircraft will be all linked to the aircraft ledger account, if one has been specified.

Indicator – Ignore conflicts on flight log
The flight log normally carries out a thorough validation of the information entered for each flight. Aircraft conflict is one of them. The interval between take-off and landing times of different flights of the same aircraft cannot overlap.

However, there may be circumstances, specially for private aircraft, where aircraft conflict validation should not take place. 

When this option is selected, the flight log data entry screen will not carry out such validation for this aircraft.

Indicator – Tacho time in seconds is required on flight log
When a self-launch or self-sustainable glider has its tacho reading measured in seconds, select this option. The flight log data entry screen will then automatically consider the information entered in “Tacho in seconds” column as the source for the tacho time calculation.
